MileMarker Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-07-28
This policy covers two separate services published by Hatchling Creative, LLC:
- the MileMarker iPhone app; and
- the marketing website at getmm.app.
The app and website have different data practices. Each section below identifies which service it covers.
| MileMarker iPhone app | getmm.app website | |
|---|---|---|
| Analytics | No third-party analytics SDK | Google Analytics 4 |
| Driving data | Stored on the device and in the user’s private Apple CloudKit container | Not collected or received |
| Accounts | No user accounts | No user accounts or signup form |
| Advertising | No advertising SDK, ad network, IDFA access, or cross-app or cross-site tracking | No advertising; Google Signals and ad personalisation are off |
Who is responsible for your information
Hatchling Creative, LLC publishes MileMarker. It is the controller of personal information that it receives through app diagnostics, feedback, and the website.
Hatchling Creative, LLC does not receive the driving data stored by the app. Apple provides CloudKit, geocoding, TestFlight, and App Store payment services under Apple’s terms and privacy policy.
For questions or requests concerning this policy, contact [email protected].
The MileMarker iPhone app
This section applies only to the iPhone app. The website analytics described later do not operate in the app and cannot access app data.
Driving data
The app stores the following information on your device:
- drives, routes, and locations;
- vehicle details, classifications, and purposes;
- deduction figures and reports; and
- app settings.
If you are signed in to iCloud, this information also syncs through your private Apple CloudKit container. This allows the information to remain available if a device is lost and on your other devices.
The CloudKit container is part of your personal iCloud account and is encrypted by Apple. Hatchling Creative, LLC cannot read it. You can manage iCloud in iOS Settings, including turning off iCloud.
In ordinary use, Hatchling Creative, LLC does not receive this driving data. It is not transmitted to us automatically, and we operate no service that collects it. It is not sent to any advertiser or analytics provider.
There is one exception, and you control it. If you send a bug report from inside the app and turn on Attach troubleshooting log, that log reaches our endpoint and contains recent location points. See “Feedback, screenshots, and troubleshooting logs” below.
The app uses your iCloud identity and has no MileMarker user account, login, or password.
You control how long the information remains on your device and in iCloud. In the app, you can export data to CSV, edit or delete records, and delete your data. Deleting the app removes its on-device data.
Location, motion, and place-name lookup
The app processes location on your device to detect and measure drives. With your permission, it can detect drives automatically in the background. GPS is turned on only while a drive is in progress.
If you permit motion access, the app uses motion activity on the device to determine when driving starts and stops so that it uses very little battery. This location and motion information is not sent to us.
If you use place-name lookup, the app sends a drive’s start and end coordinates to Apple’s geocoding service to obtain a nearby address or place name. The request is handled by Apple under its privacy policy.
The place-name lookup request is never sent to Hatchling Creative, LLC.
Optional usage and crash diagnostics
The app has no third-party analytics SDK, advertising SDK, ad network, or cross-app or cross-site tracker. It does not access the IDFA and does not display an App Tracking Transparency prompt.
The app includes an optional Share anonymous usage & crash diagnostics setting. It is off by default. If you turn it on, the app sends the following information to api.hatchlingcreative.com:
- a random, regenerable, device-scoped pseudonymous identifier;
- the app version, operating system version, and a coarse device type, such as “iPhone”;
- names of in-app events, such as recording a drive; and
- for a crash, an error message and stack trace.
The identifier is not your name, email address, Apple ID, or advertising identifier. It resets when you reinstall the app.
We treat the identifier as pseudonymous personal data under the GDPR because it persists on the device until it is reset.
Optional diagnostics do not include your location, drives, routes, vehicle details, name, or contact details. We use them to operate and improve the app, including finding crashes and understanding feature use.
We do not use diagnostics for advertising, profiling, or cross-app tracking. You can stop future collection by turning the setting off.
Feedback, screenshots, and troubleshooting logs
You can send a bug report or feature request from the app. The submission includes the text you write, the app version, and device type. If you provide an email address, we use it only to reply to you.
Any screenshot you choose to attach is also uploaded to api.hatchlingcreative.com.
The app keeps a small rotating troubleshooting log on your device. It is limited to a few megabytes and records timestamps, tracking events, and recent location points from where you have driven and stopped.
The log is not sent automatically. It can leave the app in two ways:
- you export the log from Settings and share it with a recipient you choose; or
- you turn on Attach troubleshooting log when sending a bug report.
The attachment setting is off by default. Before the report is sent, the app tells you what the log contains. If attached, the log and its recent location points are uploaded to api.hatchlingcreative.com.
We use an attached log only to investigate the report. Deleting your data in Settings also clears the log.
The app sends information to api.hatchlingcreative.com in exactly three circumstances:
- you enable optional usage and crash diagnostics;
- you write and send a bug report or feature request, including any attached screenshot; or
- you turn on Attach troubleshooting log for a bug report.
Purchases
Apple processes monthly and annual in-app subscriptions through the App Store under Apple’s terms and privacy policy. Hatchling Creative, LLC never receives your payment details.
The getmm.app website
This section applies only to getmm.app. The website does not receive driving data from the app.
Google Analytics
The website uses Google Analytics 4 to count page views and measure whether the public beta install link is working. Google Analytics sets first-party cookies with names beginning _ga.
Google receives:
- your IP address and approximate location derived from it;
- browser and device type;
- the referring page; and
- pages viewed.
Google Analytics is configured with IP anonymisation on, Google Signals off, and ad personalisation off. Visits are not joined to a Google account or used for advertising audiences or remarketing.
We use this information only to understand website traffic. Google Analytics does not receive driving data because the website does not receive driving data.
The website does not display a cookie consent banner.
You can opt out using Google’s browser add-on or a content blocker. Blocking analytics does not affect the website.
We do not list a browser “Do Not Track” setting as an opt-out. Google Analytics does not act on that signal, and it would be misleading to present it as one. Browser anti-tracking features that block the analytics request itself, such as those in Safari, Firefox, and Brave, do prevent collection.
No signup form
The website has no account or signup form and does not collect email addresses. The beta is available through a public TestFlight link.
After you follow that link, Apple’s privacy policy governs the information Apple collects through TestFlight.
Apple provides developers with anonymous tester counts and crash reports. Hatchling Creative, LLC does not receive a TestFlight user’s email address or identity.
Hatchling Creative, LLC still holds a small number of email addresses submitted before the TestFlight link became public. To have one of these addresses deleted, contact [email protected].
Information we process, purposes, and legal bases
This table describes information that reaches Hatchling Creative, LLC. It does not include driving data held only on your device or in your private CloudKit container.
| Service and information | Purpose | EU and UK GDPR legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| App optional usage and crash diagnostics | Operate and improve the app, find crashes, and understand feature use | Consent, Article 6(1)(a) |
| App feedback, provided email address, screenshots, and an attached troubleshooting log | Investigate the submission and reply when contact information is provided | Legitimate interests in supporting users, Article 6(1)(f) |
| Website network, device, and usage information described above | Measure website traffic and whether the beta link is working | Legitimate interests in measuring the website, Article 6(1)(f) |
| Email addresses submitted before the TestFlight link became public | Administer prior beta signups | Legitimate interests in administering those signups, Article 6(1)(f) |
You can withdraw consent for future app diagnostics at any time by turning off the diagnostics setting.
Hatchling Creative, LLC does not rely on a legal basis to process driving data because it does not receive that data.
Recipients and service providers
Information is disclosed as follows:
- Apple provides the user’s private CloudKit container, geocoding, TestFlight, and App Store payment processing.
- Google receives the website analytics information described above to provide Google Analytics 4.
- Hatchling Creative, LLC’s first-party endpoint receives optional diagnostics and information that a user submits through app feedback.
Hatchling Creative, LLC does not sell personal information. It does not share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising and has never done so.
Retention
We retain optional app diagnostics only as long as needed to find and fix problems, and for no more than 24 months. An attached troubleshooting log is retained for no longer than that period.
Google Analytics data is retained in our Google Analytics account for 14 months.
Driving data remains in your own storage and iCloud for as long as you keep it.
International transfers
Optional app diagnostics may be processed on servers in the United States. Google may also transfer website analytics information to the United States under its safeguards.
Where EU or UK law requires a transfer safeguard for information we control, we rely on appropriate safeguards. Driving data is not transferred to Hatchling Creative, LLC through either the app or website.
Your privacy rights
To exercise a right concerning information held by Hatchling Creative, LLC, email [email protected].
Because the diagnostics identifier is pseudonymous and is not linked to your identity, we may be unable to identify the records associated with you. Data protection law may not require identification where we cannot identify a person.
European Union and United Kingdom
Subject to applicable law, you may ask us to:
- provide access to your personal data;
- correct or erase it;
- restrict its processing;
- provide data you supplied in a portable format; or
- consider an objection to processing based on legitimate interests.
You may withdraw consent without affecting processing that occurred before withdrawal. You may also lodge a complaint with the data protection supervisory authority where you live, work, or believe an infringement occurred.
California
California law may give you the right to know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose, and to request access, deletion, or correction.
It may also give you rights to opt out of sale or sharing and to limit certain uses and disclosures of sensitive personal information.
We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, so there is no sale or sharing from which to opt out. We do not offer a financial incentive for personal information.
We will not discriminate against you for exercising a right provided by the CCPA or CPRA.
Precise geolocation is sensitive personal information under the CPRA. The app uses location on the device to provide mileage tracking at the user’s request.
Hatchling Creative, LLC receives recent location points only if the user turns on Attach troubleshooting log and sends a bug report. We use those points only to investigate that report.
We do not use or disclose precise geolocation for purposes that require a right to limit its use under the CPRA.
Canada and Australia
Depending on applicable law, you may request access to or correction of personal information we hold and may withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
You may also make a privacy complaint to us. If it is not resolved, you may have the right to contact the relevant privacy regulator.
Children
MileMarker is rated 4+ but is intended for adults who drive for work. It is not directed to children, and Hatchling Creative, LLC does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
If the app’s data practices change, we will update this policy and its last updated date. We will provide notice in the app of material changes.
